My Journey with Psychedelics
Long before the arrival of what I would later come to call “plant medicine”, my path was already in motion. My family ancestry carried the wound of intergenerational trauma- as is the case for many who come to walk with medicine. I had a pension for the mystical, love of nature, and cultures.
From an early age my mother acknowledged the spark of the healer within me- simultaneously handing me the pain of a broken heart via the ancestral cycles of child abuse. In healing these wounds, I would discover my call to the path of service.
At the age of 16, LSD entered my world. Followed by mushrooms and MDMA. Being of the Terrance McKenna generation, I found the mystical shamanic world he spoke of to resonate deeply. My early experiences brought insight into the nature of reality, time, and the mind. I noticed how the experience of my body was so connected to my sense of Self. The seeds of what would become my life pursuits were planted.
In my 20’s, I moved into studying bodywork, got into adult therapy, and connection with Burning Man and Native American Church communities. Through my own journey the paths of martial arts, bodywork, movement, prayer, and psychedelics emerged as core themes. Working in environments, such as Burning Man, where these intersected stirred my curiosity about their application in intentional settings. On my own, I began to study the multidisciplinary knowledge required, started my bodywork practice, all the while deepening my personal experience and healing.
At age 30 in 2011, as I was began exploring ayahuasca and other traditional plant medicine ceremonies, I was invited to the first “Guild of Guide’s”- a milestone gathering of underground guides. From community formed there, a 4-year period of study and deepening of personal experience unfolded, as I completed a comprehensive underground guide training. My relationships within traditional plant medicine community grew, and lead me into international travel and full cultural immersion in Thailand, Mexico, and Hawaii.
Simultaneously, I trained in somatic therapy with the Hakomi Institute, completing the 2- year comprehensive training, all advanced modules, and mentoring between 2014-2019. My work as a professional guide began in 2014 at the age 34, including ongoing education, mentorship, and supervision.
